Where Daydreams Go

When you wonder where daydreams go when they drift away, you need to ask someone who lives in New Orleans.  We can tell you.  Daydreams live forever in this wonderful city we call home.  Catch a wish----what you wish for is within your reach.

New Orleans is a city full of pleasant surprises.
Be careful what you wish for.  New Orleans is a cockamamie kind of a city.  The city's streets aren't paved with crawfish, no matter what anyone has told you.

It isn't Mardi Gras every day in New Orleans. Mardi Gras Season  only lasts two or three months.

Converted To New Orleans

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.  Teach a man to fish and he'll feed his family the rest of his life.  Catch a wish in New Orleans and you'll leave with good memories that will enrich your life for the rest of your days.  How do I know?  I live here.  I am fat with good memories.

No one loses weigh when they visit New Orleans.

In the dead of night in summer in New Orleans, crickets chirp their consciences in a peaceful rhythm that encourages the sleep of the contented.  Sweet dreams.  In winter, crows caw the same way until tomorrow.  Be careful what you wish for in New Orleans.  It could be the day you want or it could be the day you deserve.

If you've ever seen an alligator try to swallow a dead dolphin off Pontchartrain Beach, you know what New Orleans can be like.  It isn't always like that way.  It's rarely like that, in fact.  Most of the time New Orleans is all butterflies and baby dolls, kin, king cake, syncopation, eight ball in the corner pocket, winning the trifecta.  What else is there to do but to have a good time?

Nobody sits in their room and plays solitaire in New Orleans.  There are too many other opportunities to seize the day.  Dance like no one is watching in New Orleans.  Nobody is.

New Orleans is all about time enjoyed.  If you are going to be alive, you may as well live like you mean it.  Laissez les bon tempts rouler.

Once you get to know New Orleans, it isn't like knowing any other city.  Knowing New Orleans is like knowing another person.  You will discover more about yourself the more you get to know New Orleans.  Be true to your code.  New Orleans is for lovers.

Be yourself.  Be the best you can be.  Be a real New Orleanian, wherever you are.  You may not be interested in getting to Heaven but New Orleans might tempt you with a taste of it.  New Orleans will make you a convert.

Visit New Orleans like you mean it.

A Poetic Essay About New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.

Use your imagination.  The more you study about New Orleans, the less you'll know.  Ours is an intuitive city.  What you see is what you get but there is more to New Orleans than ever meets the naked eye.

Signs and sigils, sirens and serendipity ----there are a million little pieces that make up an ordinary New Orleans day, let alone the more magical ones.  Stop to smell the oleander.

A week in New Orleans is edenic.  A decade can go by in a wink.  Be a New Orleanian for as long as you can.  Blessed are those who are born in New Orleans, who never leave, and, who die here, buried in New Orleans.  New Orleans is summa theologica come loud.

Every day is a sparkly bead on a string in New Orleans.  Purple is the Mardi Gras color of Justice.  Green is the Mardi Gras color of Faith.  Gold is the Mardi Gras color of Power.

The leaves never turn in New Orleans.  Every day that isn't Ash Wednesday is one day closer to Mardi Gras.

Happiness is pandemic in New Orleans, even in repentance.

Love drifts in and out of New Orleans' humidity.  Listen.  If you don't try too hard, you can catch a wish.  Dreams come true in New Orleans.

New Orleans is allergic to hard work but this magical city is never idle.  Something is always percolating in New Orleans.  If you have mojo, you may not make a startling mark here but you'll be happy.  What more is there to ask for?  Laissez les bon temps rouler.  Shooting stars dream of landing in New Orleans.

Even people who sleep in the gutters on Bourbon Street look up to catch a glimpse Heaven.  There is something about the New Orleans cityscape that inspires people to be the best people we can be.  Maybe you know the feeling.  Be a real New Orleanian, wherever you are.

When Nature calls we have to answer.  The same is true when New Orleans calls.  The world is full of mental asylums housing people who refused to answer New Orleans' siren call.  Like Ulysses, they plugged their ears with wax.  Unlike Ulysses, they never reached the end of their odyssey.  New Orleans still waits for them.  Bars are open 24-hours in New Orleans.

The Devil has a branch offices in New Orleans.  You can go to Hell in New Orleans but I wouldn't recommend it.  New Orleans is as close as you can get to Heaven on Earth.  Why screw it up by palling around with the Devil?

Purgatory is full of particular pigeon holes.  New Orleans is wide open for whoever wants to visit.  Once in New Orleans, you will have tasted a sample of paradise.  People are buried above ground in New Orleans for good reasons.  Wanna know why?  Spend at least a week in this wonderful city we call home and you'll get more than one good idea.  You belong in New Orleans.

Horse Races in New Orleans.

New Orleans isn't like anyplace you've ever lived.  New Orleans is like nowhere else in Louisiana.  Orleans Parish is very different from Jefferson Parish, from St. Bernard Parish, and St. Tammany Parish.  New Orleans is a world of its own.  New Orleans is a special place favored by providence.  Wanna go to the horse races in New Orleans?

Both daydreams and fever dreams come true in New Orleans.

You can win a lot of money in New Orleans.  You can learn alot, too.  You can make a fool of yourself in New Orleans and no one will mind.  We're all crazy fools for love in New Orleans.  You can meet the Devil in New Orleans and you can meet your maker.  New Orleans is a city plump with epiphanies.  You can find your better self in New Orleans, even if you don't have a horse in the race.

In a New Orleans state of mind, even the angels dream of spending a few nights on Esplanade Avenue.  Who can blame them?  This part of New Orleans, Louisiana is a slice of Heaven on Earth.  Oo-la-la.

Daytime New Orleans and nighttime New Orleans are two very related things.  Worlds don't collide in New Orleans.  Worlds coalesce and mingle and simmer and interpenetrate in New Orleans.  It's a heckuva town if you've got the stomach for it.

Horse racing season in New Orleans starts on Thanksgiving Day every year and it ends at the end of March the following year.  The Louisiana Cup is run in our part of New Orleans, at the New Orleans horse racing track.  We don't have any other kind of track in New Orleans.  Horse racing and betting are part of New Orleans indigenous culture.

The Fairgrounds Race Track is on Gentilly Avenue.  It's in the Fairgrounds Triangle neighborhood, naturally, and also in Faubourg St. John.  The furthest downtown side of the track is part of DeSaix.  If you don't live here, none of these geographical details mean anything to you.  I apologize.

People who live on Esplanade Avenue lakeside of Claiborne Avenue think of the racetrack as part of their neighborhood.  It's only a ten minute walk away from my front door.  Wanna play the ponies?
